Nursing
- Associate of Science Degree (A.S.)
- Bachelor of Science Degree (B.S.)
Program Description
The associate and baccalaureate degree programs provide the theoretical and clinical foundations for educational and career mobility in nursing. The program competencies prepare graduates to practice in a variety of rural and Native
American health care settings. The two curricula incorporate the four competencies of critical thinking, communication, cultural competence, and citizenship. The core competencies integrate evidence-based practice with health promotion,
acute, and chronic care of individuals birth to death, families, communities, and populations. The competencies prepare graduates eligible to apply for licensure as a registered nurse and to practice in a variety of healthcare settings. The nursing curricula are derived from the work of the Oregon Consortium for Nursing Education (OCNE.org) to design seamless articulation
between associate and baccalaureate programs. The philosophy and organizing framework for the programs are published in the ASN and BSN Student Handbooks. The new ASN/BSN curricula were implemented in 2007-2008. Any further curricula changes will be posted in the catalog addendum, nursing website, and Nursing Department offi ce.
